Bespoke and Custom-Printed Wallpaper Explained

What “Bespoke” Actually Means

“Bespoke” is one of the most over-used words in interiors, and it leaves a lot of Accra clients unsure what they are actually buying. So here is the plain version: a bespoke or custom-printed wallpaper is an image — your image, or one chosen for your wall — printed to the exact dimensions of that one wall, then hung as a single coordinated installation. It is not a roll you buy off a shelf and trim to fit. It is made once, for one place. Wallpapers Ghana has printed and installed digital-print and bespoke wallcoverings across Accra since 1985, and the difference between a custom print that looks like art and one that looks like a stretched photo comes down to a few decisions made before anything is printed.

The Three Kinds of Custom Print

Photo-Murals

A single high-resolution image scaled across the whole wall — a landscape, a city skyline, an oversized botanical. The most important factor here is not the printer; it is the source image. A photo that looks sharp on a phone can look soft and pixelated blown up to two metres. We check that the source resolution is high enough for the wall size before we commit to print, and we will tell you honestly if an image will not hold up.

Brand Graphics

For offices, this is a logo, a colour field or a graphic pattern printed to brand colours for a reception or boardroom feature wall. The work here is colour accuracy — matching the print to the brand’s exact colour reference, not an approximation, so the wall sits right next to printed materials and signage.

Scaled Patterns

A repeating pattern or motif, custom-sized so the repeat lands correctly on your specific wall rather than being cut awkwardly at the corners. This is the quietest kind of bespoke, but often the most useful — it lets you size a pattern to a room instead of forcing a room to fit a standard roll.

Why Measuring Is the Whole Game

A standard roll forgives a small measuring error — you trim the excess. A bespoke print does not. Because the image is sized to the wall before printing, a wall measured wrong produces a print that is wrong, and it cannot be cheaply reprinted. This is the single most common way a custom job fails, and it is entirely avoidable. We measure the wall ourselves, account for switches, sockets, skirting and any out-of-square corners, and confirm the print dimensions before the file goes to the printer. The print is made once because it is measured twice.

What Custom Printing Costs in Ghana

We will be straight about this: a bespoke print costs more than a standard roll, because it is a one-off. You are paying for the print file preparation, the made-to-measure printing, and an installation that has to align one continuous image rather than repeat a forgiving pattern. The exact figure depends on the wall area, the finish (matte, washable, textured) and the image complexity, so we quote on survey rather than guess. What you are buying for that premium is a wall that is genuinely yours and exists nowhere else.

When Bespoke Is Worth It — and When It Is Not

Bespoke earns its premium when the wall is a focal point and the image carries meaning: a reception wall that has to be on-brand, a feature wall behind a bed, a child’s room with a specific scene. It is harder to justify on a secondary wall where a quality standard roll would do the same job for less. We will tell you which case you are in — if a standard residential wallcovering serves you better, we will say so rather than upsell a custom print you do not need.
